862 heads
Okay i'm really new to the LS world, and I think I know where I pretty much stand with my cam and intake, but not sure about my 5.3 (862) heads. I've seen several posts on the 5.3 heads themselves, but none of them say which casting number they have. So my question is...how good are these heads? They were purchased from Texas Speed by the original owner. I'm assuming they were ported/polished and whatnot. Also considering my setup, would I benefit from a Fast intake over my LS6? How about the bump stop mod, or a ported throttle body...the current one is stock and not ported. Just trying to gather some info here and learn more about what I have
Thanks
Thanks

Thanks guys! So what FAST intake do you recommend...there are different ones correct? What would be a good throttle body to get? What about the MAF? Both of these are currently stock on my car.

Excellent..thank you! One last question about the whole intake, tb, and maf setup..if I do all this will I lose a good portion of my low-midrange power in favor of pure top end performance, or will my heads and cam support a nice gain all around? Also, would this combo of parts be hard to tune or anything?

You might lose a little low end, but with this combination (assuming the Torquer v2 in your sig), this would still be an excellent all-around combination. It would still have excellent midrange, and great top-end as well.

Good deal! What about the tuning? I only ask because i've heard it could be a bit tricky to tune one of these intakes and whatnot. Not sure if that's just internet garbage or some truth to that. Yes it is a Torquer V2 that I have as well.

Average power should be higher, but any reputable tuner should be able to handle that combination with ease!

Cool! Well now I know what i'm saving for lol So how much more power might I be looking at roughly? I'm assuming the hp and torque will carry out a bit further as well, along with that average overall increase under the peak? Right now I peak at about 6300, and it carries pretty flat till 6800 where the rev limiter hits

I've seen gains from the fast as high as 25, I'd expect 10-20 on your setup. It sounds like a lot of money for little gain, but it will be the last intake you buy. If you go larger cubes, turbo, etc in the future, you won't have to worry about the intake. And you won't be leaving power on the table now.

10-20 hp is pretty decent as long as it's not just a pure peak number, but rather a decent increase in the mid range as well. I've been doing a little research, and it looks like it would create a broader torque curve as well...that's really important to me! Wish these things weren't so damn expensive lol

...That would be cool if the difference between the 92 and 102 was only "TB opening size," but doesn't the 102 have a larger volume plenum/longer intake runners? In other words you will basically lose low end (due to slower intake velocities) to gain more top end ('free-er' flowing in the high RPMs)?
