05 v bad oil sending unit?
I was driving my V today and when I cycled through the gauges on the dash my oil pressure was pegged at 129 psi. The car was running the same as usual so I am pretty confident the gauge was reading incorrectly but does that sound like a bad oil sending unit or something else?

mine had the same exact problem and it was the sending unit, it's located on the back of the block behind the intake manifold closer to the driver's side. I hope you don't have a maggie because i cut up a socket to fit and could only do something like 1/8 turns to install it PITA

+1 on the oil pressure sending unit. The OE unit is pretty cheap and made from aluminum, it just feels cheap. I have always used a "Standard" aftermarket replacement since it is made from brass and have never had a problem with them.
For Maggie owners, I hope your valley plate was clearance for the sending unit when it was installed, otherwise you will be cussing b/c the valley plate touches the sending unit making it impossible to get the socket on there.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I think it might have this same problem as mine pegged out today driving home and it stays pegged even with the engine off.
Questions:
1. Is the car OK to drive while I order a replacement part or is it too risky?
2. Is sender's only purpose to send a signal to the pressure gauge or does it serve another purpose (like controlling oil pump throughput)?
3. Do I need the socket heavymetal posted or is that just useful if I have a Maggie (which I don't)?
Thanks!

LOL how timely mine broke yesterday... The '05 Escalade in December.
Two CTS-Vs I drove while finding mone had the oil pressure sender broken as well. POS part!!!
I imagine all the GM LS engines have the same oil pressure sender? Anyone have a good aftermarket part number?
Thanks!
Edit, I wonder if a crowsfoot would work for the install/removal tool?

So I was wondering why my oil pressure was reading 0 in the dash. After reading this thread I went out and found the connector not plugged into the sender. My Maggie was apparently not clearanced for the sender and the clip part of the connector is facing the Maggie. There is not enough room to install the connector. I am going to try and get another 1/4 turn on the sender to see if I can get the connector plugged in.
