Default how would you get this A/C vent to look like stock again?

I was wondering what you guys would use to get my A/C vent back to the stock appearance? It is a 99 car so it is the graphite (gray) color when it is in stock form.

The vent looks to have been spray painted red, then black. it just looks like crap to me and i want to get it back to stock.

so what would you guys use to get the job done?

brake fluid?
brake cleaner spray?
sandblast?

any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks.

i would go to the junk/salvage yard and try to find replacements. if thats not an option, i'd probobly try using a scotch brite pad and some paint thinner/lacquer remover type stuff, or Goof Off.

I'd try junk yard IMO or look for a local "Part Out" Thread.

I would either try to find a spray paint thats similar in color to what your looking for and just paint it or I would find a ne part. stripping it down might cause the panel to lose texture or color and then you would need to constantly have it shined with a interior spray or cleaner. too much work time and hassle.

should be a part number on the back side of it. Might be worth getting a new piece from gmpartsdirect online if ya cant find one around town. I got the trim plate for my Traction control button from them because I was trying something out and wanted a backup. It was inexpensive. Just an idea.

SEM makes a graphite interior paint that is a perfect match for the 97+ graphite interiors. It's a little lighter than than the 94-96 graphite though. Costs about $10 a can.

This

When I first bought my car I noticed that the previous owner left cigarette burns all over the plastic interior pieces (shift indicator, center console, radio trim, that vent you have pictured), so I bought nice replacements on ebay from the same seller. This is the only way to go if you want it too look flawless...

Get a "new" one from a scrap/partout car.

i wouldn't be surprised if a magic eraser would work. couldn't hurt to try ($3 for a 2 pack at most grocery or cvs/rite-aid/walgreens stores).

ya that magic eraser is awesome. i will try the magic eraser and lacquer thinner/scotch brite pad combo, see how it works, and report back.

most of the part out cars have been 2000 and newer, or 2001 or newer, which is the black inerior.

.....sounds like it's time to do an interior swap! who wants to help me pull out the dash??? haha
