Default Shorter Antenna

Don't know if any of you guys have ever tried this, but I heard about it a couple weeks ago and gave it a shot... Any of yuo ever notice how our antennas look like they are off of an RC go-kart? A budy of mine talked me in to cutting it down. I figured I would give it a shot. I cut it down to 13in.. I have had no radio interferance at all. It makes it look so much better. I'm gonna try and get a pic on here sometime soon.

Our famous moderator Steve cut his antenna down, and it certainly helps out on the appearance. Make sure you put a small vacuum cap on the end so that you don't take someone's eye out.

The other choice is installing a power antenna with a bypass switch like I did.

This will probably hurt reception at far distances and such. Thats why I didn't do it.

It makes it look a lot better especially when you car is lowered. I cut mine with bolt and lock cutters then gound it flat so the ball would go back on. No reception problems here either.

I'm sure that the aftermarket antenna are nice, however when you can do it for free, then why spend the money...

Next one same thing but just put a tiny vaccume cap on the end.. this antenna now lives on Poltergiests car

Now I have the power antenna and I LOVE IT!! only $65 through GM parts direct and it was a snap to install

Here is a website I used for install tips:

I also have the power antenna with a bypass switch. When I installed it (first got the car), I got a second fog light switch, painted it black (so it didn't have the light symble on it), and the put it inline to the lead running to the antenna.

Later I installed my amps so I spliced into the lead before the switch so I could still have the amp turn on with the antenna down. Its sweet...I go 99% of the time with the antenna down (CDs...) but then just hit the switch and I have perfect reception.

The camaros don't have the lead (a wire) from the factory but the radio (and the plug) do have the location for it. Just look on the back and you will see an empty slot. Just take some wire and bundle it up tight so it will force into the slot and that will do it.
