Default Question for VFN or any one with the Ram Air 4 inch Hood for TA

I have my car in the shop with the VFN 4 inch Ram air hood. I had them cut out the area for the small air ducts in front behind the grills. On the factory grill the air only passes into the air lid through the opening under the air box, with the VFN hood there is an area that will allow air to go up into the cowl area of the hood. Will this cause a parachute effect? where will the air go? I am thinking of having them put air vents on the back of the hood on the cowl for the air to escape. Any ideas?

Thanks

Good point, I am interested in this topic as well. I am getting the regular version, but would still have the same effect.

I'd say that was a good test with the holes closed.

if "dads toy" had his up to 150 with no holes and had no parachute effect then it would seem that with holes there would be no effect. The holes would relieve underhood pressure not add to it. or are you thinking that with a strait thru shot of air there might me lift as with an airplane wing? Not sure about that. doubt it though.

I posted the same question on the VFN site, haven't heard from them yet. I will let you know or you can just check their site for a response.

Thanks
John

Just so you know, With no holes cut out the hood is fine, I have had my car up to about 160 with the hood and no problems.

Got my car out of the shop, not much time to drive it due to bad weather. did get a couple of 120 mph runs with no problems. Had the shop cut 4 3/4x4inch slots in the back of the cowl portion to let air escape and open up the front area to allow air to go into the intake slot where air goes into the air lid. when the weather is better I will make some 140+ passes to see how it does.

I noticed that you said that you cut out holes in the cowl. But my ? is did you also cut holes infront of the inlet holes behind the grills? If so have you had any problems? Im thinking of doing the same to my new SLP Ram Air HO hood.

yes, thats what started it. I had the shop cut out the area behind the front grills to make the 'RAM AIR' functional. after this was done we discovered the air could only go up into the cowl area and not through the slot below the air lid. So I had them open the area to allow air to get to the passage to the air lid. I was still worried about how much air would still be trapped in the cowl area so thats why I did the slots in the back of the cowl. not sure if they where needed but I would rather be a little safe than sorry. also it might help in removing some of the engine heat from under the hood.

like I said earlier, weather has been bad but I made a couple of pretty fast passes on the highway with no problem.

hope this helps
