Default SEM Color Match For Ebony Leather

I know there are other threads on here that mention using SEM Color Coat for changing the color of interior parts. SEM 15013 Landau Black is said to be a close match to the Ebony color.

The passenger front seat in my 02 Z28 was damaged in a wreck. I bought the car lightly wrecked. I found another seat that was out of a 98 Camaro. It was a dark gray color lighter than the ebony seats in my car. I only needed to use the lower seat bottom to repair my seat.

So anyhow the purpose of my post is that I found that SEM makes an exact match for the ebony interior. It is called SEM Sure Coat and the part number for Ebony is 4939.

I am going to try this and will report back on here with before and after pics. I thought this info may be helpful to some of you here. Their sure coat is recommended for use on leather.

I just ordered the stuff so as soon as I get it I will try it out and post my results.

Well I got the stuff, followed the directions exactly, and I've got to say that I am quite disappointed in the outcome. This car is just going to be a street strip driver so it's not to big of a deal. Lets just say that the SEM Sure Coat that matches Ebony, is NOT an exact match.

Here is a link to the directions I followed from the SEM site. Directions Here.

I used the directions for refinishing leather. To be fair I should note that their sure coat product is intended to be sprayed on with an actual paint gun, like what you would use to paint a car with. Or it can be brushed on.

I currently don't have any paint equipment so I did a search online and found a place that sold custom mixed aerosol cans of sure coat if you supplied them with the SEM part number for your particular color. So thats what I used.

Here are the before and after pics. The top half of the seat is the original ebony. The lower half is the 1998 Dark Gray color.

Before.

After

As you can see there is hardly any difference in the before and after. Some of it has to do with my crappy camera and the lighting. In person it is darker than it was before but not exactly the same.

Here is a pic of what I used to do the job.

Let us know how it holds up. I coated a seat in my WS6 and all it did was flake and peel.

I used the SEM products pn mu plastics and loved it. I doubt that I would use this on any leather products, I would rather buy the right colored seats

take a good leather cleaner to the top part of that seat and it will be clean and dull looking and match the freshly painted bottom much better
