When can I polish after new paint?
So when I got my car back from the body shop after getting my new hood and fender (hit a deer) the guy said I shouldn't wax it for 6 months. That sounds ridiculous to me. Can I at least use a non-abrasive polish? There are a few spots on the new paint that could use some polish. The paint is PPG if it matters. It's been about 2 weeks since it was painted.

Normally I would use my Porter Cable polisher w/ Menzerna intensive polish then final polish II and then some wax but I don't intend to use it on the new paint. I just want to use some Meguiar's by hand in the meantime. So is the consensus to wait 2 more weeks for a total of 4 before using some Meguiar's?

Waxing and polishing are two totally different things. What you see on overhaulin is them using polish, not wax. Polish is basically like a really really find sandpaper that has no silicone in it so it doesnt trap any solvents in the paint that are trying to get out. Wax is not an abrasive but rather a sealer. Depending on the weather and where the car sits during the day is going to determine how long you need to wait to put wax on your fresh paint. It can be anywhere from a week to more than a month...6 months sounds like a little long but then again he is better safe than sorry when it comes to a customer screwing up his work.
