Problem with nightshades "cracking"
Hey all,
I did some nightshading on my camaro tails and chsml last night.
Tails went great. rouged em up, cleaned em up, nightshades, clear. Looks fine.
The center... the nightshades "cracked" while drying. At first I thought this was just because I sprayed it a little to heavy, so I went through the effort to clean all of it BACK OFF, re-roughed, and cleaned again.
Did really light coats, same problem again. Anyone had the same problem? I don't think it's just my technique because both tails went flawlessly.
And yes, everything was removed, laying flat. The 2nd try looks better but it still isn't smooth because of the cracks. Looks ok but I'm a little picky.

i had the problem on the center (3rd brake light as well).
light coats and constant sanding durring the drying process as well as level drying finally got it.
also, the type of clear will have something to do with the paint lifting.

I just thought it was strange that it was only on the chsml. I did it right along with the tail lamps and had no problem at all.
And the 2nd time I did it, I used a ridiculously light coat and it started cracking in the same way.
I'm thinking there is something about the plastic used in the chsml lens. Maybe it has some silacates in it or something.

Nope. I took them all off the car. Cleaned and dried them (I think with just water and paper towels). Applied a few coats. Waited about an hour. Applied a few more coats. Let sit over night. Reinstalled on car.

I'm wondering if scuffing them up might release something from the plastic that the paint doesn't like. That might explain why some have problems and some don't.
Think I'm gonna pick one up off the bay and give it another whirl without roughing it up first.
