VHT works just fine if you do it right. But according to your original post you don't want to sand or paint, and VHT done properly, does require sanding, painting, and clearcoat.
But if it's done right, it looks 1000% better than pop-ons, and you don't have to worry about the pop ons falling off or breaking / getting stolen. I've had both on various cars and the VHT looks much better, but it does require more work.
Another benefit is that you can use any number of coats of the VHT to get a very light smoke, or pitch black.
I was nervous about using the VHT, so I picked up an extra set of tail lamps on ebay for $20. I'm not sure TA tails can be had that cheap, but it was a good insurance policy for me, plus I wanted to be able to go back to stock come resale day.
There is a good write-up in the appearance hall of fame sticky.
If you decide to go with VHT, get it from summit, it's cheaper.

i'd still go and get a body shop to lay a real fine tint on them, mixing in alittle black with the clear coat, so you can tint it to what ever tint you want. it'll also look waaaay better than the other ways said
orangeapeel, when did you become a mod?! congrad's on that

I always thought the VHT stuff would look best if you darken the edges more and left the middle area a little lighter. That way at night the centers would glow and slowly fade around the edges. I think it would look cool and still be fairly bright during the day. Any thoughts on this?
