Difference in leather
Is there a difference from 98-02 ta leather? Mine looks like vinyl and I've never really liked it that much, but I was looking at pics of 02's and they actually look like decent leather, I dont have an 02 handy right now to look at so I thought I'd ask

I have a 2002 with only 38,000 miles on the body and interior (zero on the motor, still down ).
I don't know how the '98's are, but mine has always felt, even when bought brand new, like pure ******* garbage... Plastic'y I dare say. I can't even imagine that the older ones would actually have leather of even less quality.

I know the leather on 99 is from skinned Jackels
It's in good shape just pretty low in quailty.
I've always thought the OEM leather from all the years were pretty low. Didn't stop me from buying it though lol!

Well I have a low mileage 98 with hardly any wear on my seats. I'll have to check my friends 02 out im pretty sure their leather is closer to real leather

GM used the same "leather" in all years of the 4th Gen cars. Its the lowest grade, more plastic than leather. Super thin, poorest quality. All you can do is condition it often, and live with it. Or, pay big $$$ to have the seats redone in better quality hides.
If you want to feel what real leather seats feel/look/smell like, go sit in a new Cadillac. Or even a lowly Honda Accord. I was driving a 2005 Accord coupe the other day, and couldn't get over how nice the leather was, in comparision to the Trans Am.
Our Acura has really nice leather, and its only the RSX model. Pretty sad that GM couldn't give us better hides, for such expensive cars like the F-bodies.

I had my DS seat cover replaced 2X under warranty due to the leather wearing off on the bolster area.
