Stress cracks from flex or impact more like it, especially if the covers have been refinished. No aftermarket paint reguardless of brand/quality or weather a flex agent was used or not is as durable/flexible/chip resistant as factory.

my front bumper looks like a 14year old acne infested kid. damn rock chips.
im thinking about painting it myself one day.
looks like the majority of the spider cracks are from LTx cars. all that flex from all that torque!
