Re: swirl remover
You can fill them in a the gelatin oil based by product a.k.a WAX but as you wash the car, more and more oil's will be stripped leaving you with the surface you began with.
You can use either of these products, they all can be purchased locally and they are pretty much fool proof.
Meguairs Swirl Remover
3M Swirl Mark Remover
3M Finesse It-II
3M Fine cut rubbing compound
They are listed in order of strenght, it's a pretty complete collection. The Meguairs is the weakest of the bunch, useful on cars that are near perfect and need touching up or for bug guts.
The 3M product Swirl Remover is stronger and can be used to tackle light to moderate swirls but try to use this in combination with a machine, by hand it's very time consuming.
3M Finesse It-II is great for moderate swirls even by hand, by machine it's all that much better.
Last but not least, the 3M compound is awesome, equal to 2500 grit sand paper and you can remove some serious swirls with one or two passes of a cheap random orbital polisher, I can only imgaine how strong this product would be with a rotary.

Re: swirl remover
My car never gets washed because it never see rain. I do, however, dust it often. It tends to pick up swirls over the course of a cruising season due to the constant dusting. At the start of each spring I hit the surface with the following:
1) Meguairs Scratch X (different from the other Meguairs swirl removers, it's stronger)
2) Meguairs Mirror Hand Glaze
3) Meguairs Gold Class Wax
This system has worked great for me. All easy stuff to get, any auto parts store has it. For surface cleaning and dusting I use Meguairs Quick Detailer.
