Convertor Lock up on the dyno..
Just a quick question, I recently bought a Circle D 4C convertor. On the dyno while trying to tune it with the convertor locked in 3rd gear, it was struggling to make power like it did with the old convertor.. So we unlocked the convertor and tuned it that way and make 20more rwkw..
Has anyone else had issues like this? Is it just the way this convertor is while it is locked? dyno figures dont mean that much to me as it goes much harder than it used to on the street

How do you lock it on the dyno?
When I had my car done the dyno needed the ODB2 port. I guess you need to load a custom tune that locks it by programming?
I put down 325 rwhp, so that would have been higher locked right?

Well it will set codes but in the absence of software to do it in programing You can also tap into the tan/blk wire and the brown wire PIN U and ground both of these during the run after you get to third gear, This will absolutley lock the converter for your test, You will need to clear the two solenoid electrical codes when you are done.
But most dyno operators should be able to lock the converter in the software and this should not be needed.
But yes it should be higher locked.

He said he couldn't lock it. I brought my tuning stuff, but obviously we couldn't both plug in at the same time.
Thanks for that info.

Typically the RWHP/RWKW is higher when locked. The only difference between the OE and a performance converter locked is the weight. The single disk is not really made for locking at WOT, either on the dyno or at the track. So be careful not to abuse it to much. What most dyno guys do is tune the car unlocked, then make one last pull locked to get a bigger number out of it. I agree with you, it really only matter on how it performs on the street. Glad you are happy with the increased performance on the street.

Thanks Chris, The convertor is awesome and was worth the wait for it. ill find out how good it really is when i hit the track next weekend
We had a few dyno pulls with the convertor locked and it didnt seem right, i was only curious to why but its all good.
2002CAMAROSSLS1T56, My tuner (Martin Donnon) has a state of the art Mainline dyno that has obd2 port access etc pretty trick.
