It provides firmer and quicker shifts. I have a 3600 stall on a 4l80e trans which has pretty slow shifts to begin with. With the Transgo shift kit it chirps the tires going into 2nd and made a big difference in shift firmness and quickness. That being said I wouldn't consider it a necessary upgrade unless you go with a higher stall torque converter.
BTW I had similar results with the stock 4l60e and 4000 stall.

The TransGo HD2 is the only shift kit to go with. Firm shifts when on the throttle and smooth shifts when taking it easy. But it needs to be installed by a pro, or someone who has done a lot of them. A bit tricky, clearly.
And worth it to me; the tranny was slipping after the turbo install. The TransGo tightened it right up.
