Here's a ballpark, my truck books at around 7 hours for removal, clutch install, reinstallation. So 75 bucks an hour is 525 bucks, and the truck is a little more involved than a car since theres a transfer case as well. So if the car is 6 hours and charge say 40 bucks an hour 240 bucks... i don't think thats bad at all. You won't find a shop to do it for 40 bucks an hour.

Can your friend help? Or is it one of those "do it for me" type situations?....
I'd say if he can and wants to help and is a good friend go easy on him, but if he just wants you to do it for him... charge him accordingly. I learned a long time ago to only be so cheap even with friends...you have to take each person differently.

This is what I do and it seems pretty damn fair to me. Anybody wants me to do anythign I call a known shop in the area, not pep boys or some hole in the walll place. Find out what they would charge to do and I cut the price in half and do it for that. Very reasonable. I make good money at a dealership, so I know what I am doing when it comes to working on car/trucks, so I can make good time doing it. It may not be the same case for you. Electrical concerns are a whole different ball game tho.
If he helps take a lil more off, since you are not doing all the work. Hell if he buys a 24 pack split it with him. Be a nice friend.

I use mitchell and go for 40/hr. when I'm working at home. If they are a friend or relative, I go with my normal payscale (21.50/hr). If you can find out the book time, do that. Its more than fair. If he finds a shop that does it that cheap, congrats, but they ain't much obviously. He can save some money and you can make some too. Everyone is happy.

IMO if it's a friend that helps you out when you need it than just food and drink. If it's a "friend" that seems to disappear when you need help then the standard rate applys as posted above. I have both kinds of friends, so I either get fed or get paid.

I thought that was a fair price from a well known shop.

I did a radiator/tune up on a newer v-8 jeep grand cherokee for my buddy for free since he used to work at ultimate electronics and got me some super good hook up deals on an alarm and a syatem for my old LO3. I'm talkin real cheap lol. He provided some brewskis and we were 4 wheelin the next day
If he has possible connections in the future, do it for a case of beer. Like it paid off for my friend, he blindly hooked me up a couple of years ago just because his girlfriend was friends with mine. Then i saved him about 500 bucks a year later. It all works out eventually.

if it was one of those friends that you hadnt talked to in a few years and then he calls you out of no where and asks you to do it. charge him. if its a regular friend do it because he's a friend.

LOL, I find this thread quite interesting since I'm the friend. Only thing is I'm currently deployed to Afghanistan. I'm coming home in Aug for 2 weeks of leave and would like to drive the car (car show and maybe track). If I was home I would have no problems helping. I'm just looking to have this done while I'm here, so while I'm home I'm not wasting time.
