c6 6l80e swap to a 4l60e has anyone done it?
I have a c6 with a 6l80e auto in it and i want to replace it with a built bad to the bone 4l60/65 or what ever they call it. Has anybody done it? would it be to hard? I dont care about losing the two gears. Im just trying to go faster (make more power) with out the tranny to keep craping on me. What about anybody building the 6l80's yet? So you dont get confused i have the full 4l60 (tranny, tourque tube, shifter, ect.) in my garage that came out of a c5 that did a manual swap already. Thanks Any help will be appreciated.

im not sure if it would work electronically, i know with the newer trannys they have 2 separate controllers where the 4l60e was on the same controller as the engine. im sure there is a way to rig it up though.

Yea thats what i heard too about the controlers. Today though i heard that i can by an adapter that allows it to convert. I think M.A.S is the company name.
Yea the 6l80 is stronger than the 4l60 stock for stock but when you add upgrades on the 4l60 it will hold way more than he stock 6l80. You would probably say "build the 6l80 and then" but i have yet to find anyone that will build better yet warranty a 6l80. R.P.M puts better clutches in them but for what i want to do i dont think it will be enough.
I called R.P.M and they said for $1200+ shipping they will put better clutches (replace the stock clutches for upgraded ones) in my tranny and thats it. They told me there working on adding additional clutches to but there having problems with the computer reconizing with added clutches. So i figure i should 1. wait till they come up with something that might work on my 6l80 or 2. Give the money to build this 4l60 i got and just buy the adapter peice that i heard was like 350$ and call it a day. But i got a felling putting that 4l60 swap is'nt gonna be as easy as i just made it sound lol.

I just want my truck to work? My wife needs it to drive to work! Is it possible to swap a 6l80e to a 4l60?
we have a 2011 Tahoe LS 5.3
I can't afford a new tranny. The rebuild is expensive also. My brother has a 4l60 for me for free. Am I wasting my time trying to swap?

I've seen some 6L80e to 4L80e standalone harness conversions. I would assume that may work for the 4L60e? 🤔🤷
Or why not swap a 6L90e? I believe the ZL1 or those high powered specific vehicles ran that one? Electronically I think they made the same or similar enough. They just have the heavier duty rear planetaries? Maybe some other smaller differences like additional clutches in some of the drums?

To answer your question, yes it can be made to work somewhat, but at what cost. You will need a standalone controller and harness, different drive shaft and the trans crossmember will need to be modified or replaced. Then it will take an electrical engineer to get all of your electronics to work. If it is 4wd you may need a different transfer case if there isn't and adapter available.
