Default Trans Fluid ?

I guess this is a question that could cause quite the debate, but here goes. I just purchased a Yank SS4000 and the install instructions read to use either Dextron III or a good type F tranny fluid and stay away from synthetic. Does anyone have a preference to one being better than the other or does'nt it make a difference? Thanks

stick with DexIII. it's proven. as far as brand they all have to meet certain specs so they are virtually the same fluid. I personally run Castrol or Valvoline.

type f will last better with higher temps, but if your tranny has already been ran with the dex 3 stay with that. type f and 3 dont always mix well.

Hey Butch-

congrats on making the best purchase you can for that car!

Use Dextron, its what the car came with and most likely still has, stay away from synthetic, synthetic will kill that tranny in no time!

I saw your other thread also , I am pretty sure that Formula has a 160 stat and the PCM has been adjusted for it, not 100% though, I have had some many of these damn things I get a few minor details mixed up here and there

If the tranny already used Dextron, use that and stick with it.
