Default Bogging Down and "breaking" feel in 3rd

Ok. I think my tranny is about to . When I am cruising at freeway speed in OD, the TCC is locked up, etc, when I give it enough throttle to make it downshift to 3rd, it hits the gear, but then sometimes it bogs down and it feels like the breaks come on. I loose about 500 RPM when this happens. It gets worse and worse. I think the overrun clutches are trying to come on, or the band is trying to apply again. Vince, Frank, HELP!

I THINK that the over run clutches wouldn't affect it at all , also the band applying would only give you 4th, maybe something with the low roller clutch.

It's almost like it tries to creep into 4th. It is definitely slowing the car down though when it happens. The car is stock except for what is in my sig and I don't race it/abuse it at all. It has almost 120,000 miles.

Your best bet is to get a rebuild. There may be issues with vlave body and or seal throughout the tranny. I've learned its best to check all with these trannys vs trying to fix only one thing.

If you don't race it then maybe a performabuilt level one/stock converter will be a nice upgrade/ reliable setup.

Also, I think I have a bad cat. Could this be causing my problem? I have NEVER heard of a 4l6X transmission doing this before.

Bump! BTW I am not throwing any codes other than P0420 which is for the driver's side cat.

Buy some off road headers and be done with cats, my tuner was able to delete the codes and it passes emmisions.

Or I beleive gm had a recall on these cats, i got the letter, but i didn't have cats on the car...LOL I have an off road y-pipe.

Bump for update. Well, it has now started doing this in ALL gears to varying degrees depending on how fast I am going and particularly if I am going uphill. It is "breaking" and "surging." This does NOT sound like a transmission problem but an engine problem. What do you guys think?

Had a tune up lately? these fuel filters get clogged easy, they are cheap, I replace mine every 10,000 and still find ahit in them when I open them up. plugs and wire? air filter, clean MAF, Any SES codes? Also the throttle body likes to carbon up on cars that still have the emmissions equip. clean it as well.

Does the tranny fluid look nice and red?

Is there a write-up somewhere on how to change the fuel filter? I tried a search but can't find one. I will also try to deal with the cat.

The transmission fluid looks fine to me, and it doesn't smell burnt at all. It is still hitting all the gears fine, i,e, no slipping in 3rd or any other gear.
