Need to cool a 4L60E without a radiator...would this work?
I'm building a daily driver 5.3L/4L60E Nissan 240SX, and I need to set up the cooling system for the 4L60E. Problem is, I couldn't find an aftermarket radiator and now have a Koyo radiator which has no provisions for an automatic. So, I need to figure out some way to cool the trans. Here's my current plan
-Transmission cooler (something around 8" by 10") mounted under headlight where it should get ample airflow
-fan controlled by a thermostat to kick in at 180*
-temp gauge for in the car
-use excess braided hose from Summit's fuel line kit (20' in the kit, I only need about 10', buy a couple fittings and I've got 2 more hoses for the trans cooler)
Would this be enough? This will be a not-winter car, but will still see some cooler temperatures, probably not much below 40 deg-F. I also saw small units that bypass the cooler unless the temperature of the fluid is above a certain temp, would something like that be necessary?
Thanks for any help, just trying to make sure I'm not gonna destroy my tranny.
