Default wont shift out of 1st wot

just got a 99 z28 yesterday. i havent had any problems out of it till i washed it today. after i left the car wash i noticed it didnt want to shift till way late. it got worse, now it wont shift at wot. it just bounces off the rev limiter. is it possible i got something wet (pcm, speed sensor)? any help would be appreciated

btw it has slp headers, exhaust, and a mild cam

I dont have an answer for you, but I have a buddy with a bolt on 00 Mustang GT who's car is doing kind of the same thing. Its kissing the rev limiter before it shifts, mainly in the 1-2 shift. Im curious to find out what it may be as well. Has your car been tuned and shift points raised?

you need your trans rebuilt, its the 1-2 band out. i had the same probs

northeast arkansas... i put the scan tool on it today and it showed a bad circuit in 1-2 shift solenoid. gonna try that tomorrow, or maybe tonight.

If your problem is Only second-I would suspect a stuck ck ball in a worn out separator plate (quite common on high millage vehicles.)
If you had no 4th either, I would suspect a worn or broken band (anchor end breaks sometimes)

Yea its just 1st to 2nd after it does shift everthing is fine. Normal driving it wont shift out of 1st until its 3000+ rpm's and at wot it just stays on the rev limiter in 1st.

Im having the same problem 2-3 gear is good its just 1-2 it sucks i cant race till i get money to fix it

Im buying a rebuild kit from all pro automatics and just beefing up the tranny. putting a stall in and a manual valve body with a slap shifter.

Based on that info, I wouldn't assume the trans is shot just yet. You probably have a bad 1-2 shift solenoid or the wiring to it is messed up. It really is beneficial to have a scanner that can command the solenoids, then you can check for power at the 1-2 solenoid. If you don't have that option, you can just replace it and see.

My uncle's Silverado was doing the same thing with the 2-3 solenoid and a couple trans shops told him he needed a new trans. Well, my dad put the Tech I (old school truck) and saw there was nothing happening for the 2-3 shift solenoid and replaced it and it's been working fine since.
