Different year 4l60e swap
I was thinking about buying a 1996 4l60e for my 1995 camaro and was wondering what the differences were between them and what it takes to make the transmission work in my car. Thanks!

found this... To put a ’96 4L60E into a ’95 car: The ’95 tailshaft housing and VSS must be installed on the ’96 4L60E before the trans can be bolted into the car. Technically, the 3-2 downshift solenoid should be swapped also, but experience shows that it is not required. No other modifications are necessary.
And I must have skimmed over some stuff because I found this...
Tailshaft housings house the VSS assembly which can be removed and swapped but make sure you get the gears and everything swapped over correctly.
I guess I found out the answer to the original question.
So what I am thinking is all I need to do is swap the tailshaft housing over and it should be a piece of cake. Agree or disagree?

not sure if you can go backwards in years, i just know from experience that you cant use an earlier trans is a later car.
The pump, valvebody, and seperator plate are different in the 96+ transmissions

It has been my experience that some 95 models will have the same vb as the 96 units. However some 95 units will have the 93-94 vb in them. Depending on what valve body is used the separator plate must be the correct one. In your case if you wish to use a 96 in your 95 this will work and there are only a couple things you will need to swap. The tail housing is one of them and this is because the 96 has a small vss sensor and you have the large one. The other thing that I would swap would be the internal harness and the 3-2 solenoid. If you do this I feel that you will be fine to use that unit in your 95 vehicle. Hope this helps! Vince B
