Default 4l80e neutral safety on trans. Do I need it?

I am putting a 2000 6.0l and 4l80e trans in my 75 nova. Can I get rid of the neutral safety? I was planning on using the one on my shifter that is already wired into the column. Also is that all the black box on the side around the shifter peg is for? Can I take the neutral safety wire pin outs off the pcm?

The neutral safety and back-up lights are the only things usable out of the black switch box. If you have those functions already covered elsewhere on the car, you can get rid of it completely.

Whatever you do, try and keep some sort of neutral safety switch, either on the trans or elsewhere. It is an important safety feature and could save someone from getting accidentally run over!!
