PTC converters

My buddy picked up a 3600 to go behind a very mild 5.3 build up. Its not running yet but I plan to update once its on the road. PTC has a good rep, and a good price. But remember, their $450 converter isn't billet, and that's the reason for the price difference between them and a $700 Circle D or Yank.

Steve... I know when we use to post a lot more on converters back and forth you had mentioned that we knew my converter wasn't one of their 450$ converters.
When I pulled the motor and saw it, that was the first thing I thought of.
450$ for a converter thar cuts 1.50-1.52 with a nitrous tune in 2200 with a mere 36XRwhp in a 3500# car... It was spinning but not worth mention, just enough to keep me from that 1.49X... I'll take that!

He has been DD his PTC for like a year now. Loves it. I tuned the car and the converter pulls really well. Hopefully this spring we will have some 60 ft times to brag about. We'll see if we can manage to make a trip.
And, we bought it basically on Lemons recommendation....that and their awesome feedback from other misc customers.

I have a PTC 3600 in my 2K Z28, and it burned out the lock-up clutch in under 300 miles. Now I need to rebuild the trans, and have the converter fixed.
I think I might have needed to re-tune the trans.
Did any of you guys re-tune the trans after your converter install? Why did mine burn out like that?
I used non synthetic dexron 6, like Tim recommended. Should I use synthetic next time?

^^^I've always heard non-syn Dex3 is best and that's what I buy. Yes, you should tune with a 9 1/2 inch converter to help eliminate/reduce lock-up slippage or better known as PWM. Understand, OEM wants lock-up to be smooth and near undetectable, which means they allow the clutch to slip on purpose. When you reduce the diameter of the converter, the clutch gets smaller. It can now no longer withstand near as much slippage due to its reduced size. I have successfully driven a smaller converter without a tune with no issue, however, it is better to do it right. If it failed within 300 miles it very possibly could have had an issue going on with it.....as that seems a bit premature, even with no tune.

I've used TCI, PI Vig, and PTC. If I ever change my setup, I'm going back to PTC. I love my converter, and I love supporting companies that practice great customer service.

I have a PTC 10.5" unit, stalls to 4000 or a bit higher. Netted a 12.97 @ 104 basically bone stock motor, 1.77 best 60. I'm satisfied, in the 12s at only 104 means the converter is doing something right. Had a 12.8 in it, on the 12.97 I spun pretty bad for a 1.85.
