Im thinking its a temp. sensor of some sort ?

DOes any one know what this sensor is ? It's in an 88 monte carlo ss 200 4r cz trans.

I would be greatful for any insight....

That is a thermal switch its does not allow lockup till the trans reaches operating temperature,

Ok.. I thought it was a thermal switch. Since I posted this I found a website http://www.montecarloss.com/SSThunder/drivetrain.html / that says its a thermal over ride switch which forces lock up at 260 degrees "since converter lock up actually helps cool the trans temp"...I was testing my lock up feature and it would not work with car in the air. So if this prevents lock up untill temp is appropriate then that explains it. It's a long story but I think the real "fix" is to ground the tan/blk wire. Thnaks for the input. After all the research I've done for a few weeks with no mention of this sensor, I dropped my pan and found this damn thing that thru me for a loop !
