Default Any tips/tricks or ideas for trans fluid reading?

Seems our Trans dipsticks suck.

1) mine and a few friends have been getting caught in the tube after being locked. One almost broke off from the handle while in the tube, that would suck.

2) so damn hard to get a good reading on this level mark. I hate to say this, but the "other" pony car has a pretty nice dipstick reading area. The blue oval put a white plastic checkerboard on the level area making it easy to read.

Anyone have a way or replacement stick to make getting a good reading easier? I tried to grind down the area and paint it white, paint wouldnt stay on.

I think the little holes through the tongue are
what you're supposed to go by - if they've
picked up oil but were dry before. Should clear
when you wipe it.
