4l80 rebuild Just partly completed the rebuild and have not installed the valve body.
I'm turning the output shaft and it is a bit stiff, I can hand turn it with the yolk and it take a little strength--not much--but it turns in only one direction.
Is that normal? Have I done something wrong? Any ideas?

You should be able to turn it in both directions and it shouldnt be that hard to turn. i had the same issue the first time i rebuilt a 4L80 and it was a good indication something was wrong. it turned out to be a bearing lip was faced the wrong way.
