4l60E Power Numbers
Anyone here putting ~550 foot pound threw this trans? Not looking for info on a drag car I know it wont hold up in that situation. But numbers on a street car with radial tires never really hooking up. Thanks.

Don't know what my h/p or t/q numbers are yet, but my 4l60e has been built several times and has all the good stuff in it. I trashed several due to a tuning or bad ground issue's. I was around 370 h/p and 350 t/q. I recently installed a D1SC on it and plan to push around 8psi and hoping for around 600 h/p and close to that in t/q also. I will let you know as soon as frost gets me in for a tune.

If you are running a stock 4l60e it won't last. My 408 street car has not been on the dyno yet and it devoured my stock trans for breakfast very quickly. Get yourself a built 4l60e from FLT or Performabuilt which will handle this kind of power. Or if you know someone good at building transmissions get them to throw some goodies into what you have.

It's a Steffl built trans. I purchased the hard parts from Chuck at FLT years ago and we have been tweaking some of the processes and specs as we go. Some go and some stay. Some people don't realize that if they are not running the vac. mod then they really need to tweak their tunes. Most just leave their stock trans tune alone but there is alot to be gained in tip in/throttle vrs. tables...

I am putting 822rwhp (dyno'ed w/ 6sp) with a LS9 overdriving the **** out of the blower among many other mods. I now run all this thru my 4l65e, NO issues now, but I have split a case in half from the rev drum failing AT the Sonnax smart-shell. I now use ONLY AC/Delco rev-input drums, and in this unit, "soft" 2nd accumulation and a narrow band.
In fact, this car will be run at Holley LS Fest 2013 in Bowling Green....What remains to be seen is just how many passes before the 3/4 clutch and the band/drum are done. If I get more than 250 passes without a hard-part failure, I am all too happy to put 4-500.00 into it and freshen it up. Well worth it at this power level and not have to go 4L80. For me it's not just the weight and hp-loss with the 4l80 but the fact I would have to hack an alum. chassis car to make it happen.
U will not be seeing any 8sec 3500# cars running the 4l60 anytime soon (not that will last), but more than a few running 9.20s and I did a 4500# truck that sprays to 10.0x on a regular basis. That truck got freshened up 18 months ago and still runs at Hub City Drags at least monthly.
With the right parts and hyd calibration, most would be surprised what these units can handle. You have to ask yourself, do I need the 995.00 ebay special or the 7k RPM level whatever it is this year
