Which 4l60e???
Just purchased a LQ9 dropout from a 02 Escalade......I have the complete harness....
Was told it had a 4L60e for a trans......what years trans do I need for this? I know there were early and later versions....so before I drop the cash want to make sure I new the correct one....
Going into a 68 Camaro...
Thanks in advance

You need a '98 through '06 4L60E. ('07 and later will have electrical and solenoid changes that are incompatible with your '02 PCM. Slight chance some '06 might be that way too.)
Ideally look for a '02 - '06 4L65E.

One of the local yards has a 2003 out of a 5.3 Silveraro, mileage unknown, truck burnt to the ground and they could not read the speedo.....
So, My choices are to go with a used one from a yard or private individual, or a rebuild from a company. Used probably less expensive; rebuild should have no issues and be more reliable. decisions, decisions.

2003 out of the Silverado sounds good to me. 2003 is the first full year of the hardened Sun Shell (previously a common failure point) and a few other improvements. With luck, it might even be a 4L65E, but there is no way of knowing that without a VIN lookup or opened the internals to look for 5-pinion planetaries.
I cannot image a fire would damage the trans, except for maybe the plastic around the electrical connector; you would replace the internal wiring harness ($35) to fix that. Perhaps the yunk yard will give you a great price on the trans, less than $500.
BTW - I wonder if the truck's VIN number would let you learn the truck's odometer ready at the last GM dealer visit?

The salvage yard called me, he said the ???? (cannot remember the name but it had something to do with the netural safety switch) was damaged, but the trans looked good otherwise....They want $750 for it......Told him I would think about it...

I just spoke to a guy at Mad Dog transmission near Atlanta Ga. He can build me a 4l60e with upgraded parts, free converter up to 2200 stall, shipping included for $1595. Sounds like a decent deal.....when I have looked a TCI, B&M, etc they are all more than that....
Or, I can go with the salvage yard unit....

I have been doing the research, to the point where My head feels like it is going to explode...lol.
Read reviews of Mad Dog, and they have lots, alot negative and positive, and the responses from Lou (owner).....
Lots of folks have lots to say about Monster (including Bryan Fuller (on tv)....but Monster has over 55 complaints with the BBB.....
difficult to figure out which way to go....but the answer will come in due time....

$750 sounds high, especially if the trans turns out to have 100,000+ miles on it.
If you want to spend $1700, get a trans from sponsors FLT or PerformaBuilt. (Not sure if RPM has a trans at that price).

Well....FLT Level 2 at $1595, no converter, and their core charge is way up there....at least $300. (I have no core)....
Gearstar: $2295 includes converter, and $150 core charge....
Have not checked Performabuilt, but will do that.
I have to sit down and add up all the costs: core, shipping, converter and see were it all shakes out....
