Default Built 4L60e trans temp??

I have a built 4L60e with a yanks ss3600 after market cooler but no fan on it. What should the temperature be? I have the sending unit in the side of the trans not on the trans pan. Should I put a fan on the cooler??

Thanks for the help

Where is your cooler mounted?
Your sending unit is in the pressure port?
What cooler?
What are outside air temps where you live?
Help us help you.

The cooler is mounted under the car flat behind the air dam with a slot cut in the air dam and screen over that for protection.

I am assuming it is in my pressure port? I was told to put it there

The cooler is a 35,000 gvw cooler

It's about 80 degrees here but will get up in the 90's depending on the day.

IMO you should put the cooler on the condenser if you can, as it will get better air flow. Just like you, I have a built trans with an ss3600 and see temps at 175 at most in 80 degree weather driving around town and that is reading off the pcm which reads about 10 degrees higher than a pan mounted temp gauge. My cooler is a big tube/fin on the condenser.

If you make the radiator fans run full time, then the
cooler can just be put in the air pull stream (I prefer
the "dope style" over the on-condenser mounting).

Based on your lack of airflow since your cooler location sucks, I would assume you are seeing 200-225 temps from the pressure port.

So far during normal driving it hangs around 160-165. When racing on the street it goes to 185. I'm going to a fan on the cooler and hope to keep it around 140ish.

4k stall speed here. The worst I see around town in the heat 85-95 outside temp 180-185deg. Cooler days 70-80 outside temp I see 160-175deg. Sender is in the pan.
