I'm doing my first build. I've bought two cores. One with trashed internals and one that the guy (a transmission builder) said has new internals and a cracked case. Problem is, the case I hoped was good looks like this on the inside:


It just feels like flashing and it doesn't go all the way through. The back looks like this


Is this case trashed or do they just look like this?

I've only rebuilt a handful of different cases. I recall that one good one looked exactly like your pics. The trans I have apart right now looks as nice on the inside as your does on the outside.

Hopefully one of the pros that has seen hundreds of cases can confirm that.

That is just casting flash should be ok as long as no cracks.

That's what I was hoping to hear. The pattern of it looks like something catastrophic happened and the insides were trying to get out but if that had happened, it would show through to the outside. Thanks for the replies.

Thanks you so much for this thread. I am rebuilding my first 4L60e and had the same casting cracks. I thought it was totaled.
