Yank is off the shelf for the most part, Circle-D has some standard offerings and will custom spec stuff. You can't go wrong with either, but I'd give a slight edge to the custom converter.

Both will take care of you very well. I do see more off the shelf yank converters but that may be a bandwagon technique.

i went to circle D's website and they say they build the converter after you order. they posted some nice photos in a different thread & i bet if you asked they would take a photo or 2 of your converter being built. that impresses me. nothing wrong with yank but i vote for circle D.

I currently have a Yank SS3600, which is a huge improvement over the sloppy TCI I had, but my next converter will be from CircleD because Chris (and now Brian) answer questions here almost every day.

I also have a ss3600 which has been a good converter but I think my next one will be a FTI or Circle D. I like that both companies are active on tech and both seem so have good customer service.

On a side note, I think Yanks customer service was kind of crappy and they kind of came off as a dick!

i haven't put my circle-d in yet for my 4L80 conversion but when i needed one they responded fast and the converters are built to order. He tells you how long it'll be before you order and gets it out fast. Comes in a foam padded, tightly packed box with bolts, thread locker, instructions, and spacers(if needed)

No experience with yank. But i did run a circle d 5c stall. The quality of circle d converter is amazing. Hell, even the way they packaged the converter was amazing.

The performance is unbelievable. Thats why im ordering another circle d converter.

I run a Yank SS3600. I bought it second hand and still got excellent customer service when my pump busted and took it out. They rebuilt it for me and they took the time to call and make sure I was happy with how it was and my option to move it to a SS4000.

Not sure what all one would change with a "custom" or "built to order" converter that would be of major significance for most cars. Talking with the company and choosing the right converter from their existing line will perfectly match most builds.

I have owned several circle d converters and even have a circle d converter in my chevy luv truck behind a 421 and 2 speed glide. Chris has always been great to deal with. I have also owned a few yank converters which were great converters also. I bought a circle d converter new from another member on here in the classifieds once and chris knew I was not the original purchaser of the converter and he still re-stalled it for me for free because it was a little tighter than I wanted. LOL my first converter I ran in a 4l60e probably 8 years or so ago was a yank converter that chris restalled. Man I loved that converter when I sold the car I wanted to keep the converter lol.. I should be getting with Chris here pretty soon to get a 4l80e converter for the ls powered fox coupe im working on.

They set the converters up a little different according to what you car weighs, your hp, and a few other factors. If you put your yank ss3600 in a 3800 lb car making 700hp it might flash a little different than it would in a 3400lb car making 600hp. not only that from my experience not every one wants a 3600 or a 4k stall. I have had custom cam setups where I wanted a 3400 and they damn near got it perfect.

We custom build each and every ordered converter by hand, we stock no converters on the shelf that's the way it has been for over 25 years.

No particular reason i can think of other than i just read alot of good reviews and i wanted to try something different Both have a amazing track record

My DD is my TBSS with a Circle D converter and my Firebird has a Circle D as well. I wouldn't go another route. The customer service is amazing! Chris and Brian have been great to me. I needed a cut and clean when the TBSS trans went out, they just sent me a new converter in exchange for mine that had updated parts inside.

My next converter would definitely be another Circle D.

Both companies have excellent reputations ... take your pick. No need for this to continue ...
