Default Park prawl grinding

Today I fired up the the ol trans am (96, LT1, 4l60e) and when I move the shifter into the park position, It makes a grinding noise. I have never before had this happen, I replaced the flexplate (which was bent) and bolted the tranny on just like I always have. I've taken the tranny off and put it back on many times, And have never had any problems with the shifter being in the wrong location, or shifting hard. Could the shift cable be in the wrong postion? or did something just give in my tranny? Any insight on this problem, or if anyone had encountered this before, chime in! heck I'd try to lure you in with free cookies and coffee if I could.

Disconnect the shift cable and turn the shifter all the way clockwise to engage park and test that park is nice and solid. I'm confident your shift cable is the culprit.
