Default freak show performance (billet converters)

Hay y'all just wanted to let you know of another option out there. I'm very excited to get my new converter in. I ordered it from freak show performance out of Abilene TX. That's about 2 hrs from my house. Anyhow I have read a lot about them on the web and it's all good. I talked with Michael and he knows his stuff real good guy. Why am I saying all this.. well ask anyone on the forums and they will all point you to the big guys not that they are bad, but I'm pretty sure this guy's converters are as good or better. He will definitely give you a lot better price! Let's face it they all get their parts from the same place. It comes down to the skill of they guy building it and I'm convinced that this guy can hang with the best!

You haven't had one before and you just put this one in so you have no real experience with it, but you're sure it can hang with the best. I'm not trying to make fun of you but it might be better to come back in six months or so when you've had a chance to really evaluate the thing.

Yea come back in a few months after it takes a dump and wipes out your entire transmission and let us know how you feel.

Can't really brag on something if it hasn't been beat on and tested imo

Please let us know how it does.

I hear y'a! That's a fair response I suppose. Just take a gander at freaks show performance on Facebook. I'm just letting others know there are other options! Maybe I tooted his horn a bit much. But I have been reading reviews for months looking for what I was going to buy. His reputation has me convinced I'll be fine and it will perform...I just hated that when I was researching I always got a knee-jerk answer of 4 big names. Usually the one that's given the most has a lot of bad reviews.I do know this guy is not a fly by night. And he has years of experience working for one of the biggest names in the hot rod/ racing scene. Everyone else can research and decide for their self...

While that is mostly true for the cheaper under $700 converters, it is not true for higher end converters. For example, CircleD designs and builds the billet case and some internal parts on their own CNC machines; IIRC these are $250K+ machines which puts them out of reach of startup businesses. And then it takes years to learn how to design parts and operate a CNC machine.

Nonetheless, from what I have read it sounds like some very experienced converter builders started this business around 2013. At least they are not mass-producing converters like e.g. TCI.

The comments above may be a bit harsh, but we try to be very informational, and that means comparing different converters with which you have personal experience. Many of us have tried 3+ different converters. Anything sounding like "This is my first xxxx and it is the greatest" is sure to get critical comments on any forum. We try to be friendlier here and we honestly hope it works well for you and for a long time. Give us an update down the road.

We build converters in my shop now. We've been doing so for the last year.
Previously I worked closely with a local respected converter shop.

I've seen the inside of almsot every converter out there. Not just installed them in a car and ran them, but compared the build quality that most people never see.

I'm usually not impressed with the converters that are marketed to the LS crowd.
Freakshow is the guy who used to build converters for Art Carr and Redneck.
Both were decent pieces for the money.
His current product is as well if spec'd for the real goals.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy a Freakshow billet setup.

Keep in mind I'm saying this as a competitor and it does me no good to plug their product.

I did order a billet 4l80e with single woven fiber lockup clutch, and anti balloon plates for n2o . I told him at least 550 hp at crank and 200 shot of nos. it's a 3800 stall. Most would charge 800-1100. I'll say mine was less than that. Shipped.Enviro vat 432-530-5430

Hopefully it works out for you. It's always good to have plenty of choices at a reasonable rate

no. But I'd call anyway, just to get his opinion about what would probably work best. There are th350 converters listed on eBay from them.

Probably does. That's why I'd call. Pretty sure it's a one man operation. I know for a fact he doesn't do ford aod stuff. My brother called about one.

I know a guy who ran one in a fox behind a 408 on nitrous. High 9 second car and he had great luck with it, never any issues.

Sounds a lot like our operation! we have several CNC machines running turning out converter parts and transmission parts. We actually just finished designing and making our new forged billet covers that incorporate all 3 bolt patterns into the cover to eliminate any needs or guess work on getting the right bolt circle. PLUS we may or may not be working on some new billet stators but we'll talk about that later!

Do the freakshow converters have both 10 75 and 11.5 bolt patterns on the standard th400 converter?

Seems like that info would be easily obtained by calling them.
