In my opinion...The stock Input shaft will handle whatever the aluminum Input Drum it's splined into will handle, If your Input Drum is Sleeved...Don't worry about it.
Output shaft failure is far more common.

I have guys here locally that made between 600hp-700hp on a built 4L60E with stock input shaft and the car was regularly cut mid to high 1.3X 60ft times. Sounds like you may want to call around and talk to some reputable 4L60E builders like RPM Transmissions and get their opinion as a well built 4L60E should hold up better than that.

I agree 100% with this. Reinforce the input drum and go racing. I have tons of 60E's and R4's behind some nasty engines...with stock shafts.

Sonnax makes a input drum reinforcement ring kit:

I highly recommend this be installed in any performance upgraded 4L60E. Ask your builder to do it; if he doesn't know how, find someone that does. All the sponsors use this or equivalent.
I also suggest that you first pull the input shaft out of the input drum and press it back in with Loctite to seal it up better. In another thread a pro builder found that half of used input shaft/drum combos leaked if he didn't take this step.
In a recent thread, a member said he was able to pull the input shaft out with his bare hands. Yikes, that is really loose and probably why his 3/4 clutch burned up quickly.
If you go all out and get the Sonnax SmartTech input drum, that comes with the reinforcement ring kit.
