Default Choosing a Converter for my Silverado

Hi guys!

I was wondering if someone might be able to assist a dilemma I am having with my friend. I'm planning to put a Comp cams Custom grind(269/275, .561/.556) in my 5.3 the operating range is from 1500-6800 RPM. I know the general rules of thumb for selecting a converter and decided I should go with a 3000 stall my buddy says that big of a stall wont work in a street application and says it will overheat the trans because it will have to much slippage. Is he right? Truck is a 03 has 4L60E trans, 35s with 3.73 gear ratio if that matters.

With a 3000 stall converter you shouldn't need an external cooler for street use. One of our guys here at the shop has a very similar setup to yours...3200 stall converter behind a 320whp 6.0L Silverado, custom comp cam, 4L60 sitting on 35s.

he drives it to work everyday with no external cooler and no heat issues.
