Default i think i see a rebuild in my future...again

ok so i think i may need to rebuild my transmission. the issue im getting that if your cruising at 65-70 and you give the car gas the RPM's climb up to 5000 but if you let off and try again it acts normal. it did this a year ago to the date and i lost 3-4 gear. last time it did this was last week and i installed a trans cooler and did a fluid change. i didnt see anything really in the pan. the rebuild kit was a ebay kit from alto and it had the thinner 3-4 pack. any ideas?

The thin frictions don't help, But the .128" mild steel Backing Plate that Alto sends with their Powerpacks is what really dooms the 3-4's.

This is what I run.....
7 Borg Warner .080" High Energy Frictions.
6 .077" Kolene Threated Steels.
3-4 Apply Plate GM# 8685044
3-4 Backing Plate GM# 24212460

I run 8x .080 GPZ (id say they are the same level as borgs)
4x.060 kolene
3x .077 kolene (stack these 3 in the center as that is where the most heat is, and where steels usually cone)
.223 apply
.157 apply (He meant backing plate)
.063 snap

This is another option to look at. https://ls1tech.com/forums/automatic...some-info.html

IMO its not the clutch's fault. Its all about clearances and pressures. The apply piston is just small, and since you can't make it any bigger, you need to make sure it gets the proper pressure and volume of fluid. That along with good clearances will help it live more than the perfect clutch setup.

I drill the 3rd apply to .110-.125, and a sonnax .500 boost valve, along with many other things, to all work in unison.

Yes, plenty of confirming threads that the Alto "Powerpacks" fail very quickly.
Follow Clinebarger's and MaroonMonsterLS1's advice on your next rebuild and you should be good.
Both the 7 and 8 friction setups with either BW Hi-Energy or Raybestos GPZ frictions are now well proven.

i went with TCI "super " rebuild kit. i really like the GPZ frictions that come with the kit and it has the kolene steels as well. it even came with a shift kit, i went ahead and did the "pinless" accumulator mod. i got .022" clearence and im pretty happy with it. it also came with the corvette servo kit as well. the old clutches were DONE! there was still material on the disks but the steels were hammered. another thing i noticed was there is a wavy disk in one of the packs. not the 3-4 one but the one below it. i kinda didnt put it in the right place the first time but i did this time. really excited to see how this car runs. im gonna do motor mounts while im under the car. has anyone messed with tci ez tcu?

so i dont know what the hell. ive rebuilt many of these transmissions but ive never ran into this. the car simply acts like it has no 1st gear. and like its starting out in second. when you first put it in gear it grabs hard but then when you give it gas it bearly moves. transmission is plugged in and fuse is good. only thing i can think if is clogged filter since my tci kit came with a shallow one and i need a deep one(reused it)

so i did some poking around and the fuse is good. trans has pressure. i tried hooking up a gauge but failed horribly and blood bathed my garage floor. tomorrow i guess im gonna drain the fluid in a CLEAN pan and start making sure the wiring in the trans and the connector is ok.
