Luv my FTI 3800...glad I did not go smaller. Not to mention Greg is great to deal with!! That being said both Yank and CircleD have a great rep around here... don't think you can go wrong either way.
One thing to add, I wouldn't buy a lower tier converter. Spend the 700.00 on a 9.5" with billet front cover.

The numerically lower the gear (i.e. 2.73) and the more heavy the vehicle, the more 'mushy' the stall will feel, because you are 'mushing into it' as the drivetrain tries to catch up, which takes longer when the gear is numerically lower and the vehicle is getting heavier, the rpm will more or less just sit there while it waits, making it feel like a slush box.
The only reasons I shy from a higher stall is either
A: fuel economy reasons (depends the kind of driving you do, mostly highway it wont matter as much)
B: low # rear gear / higher vehicle weight
C: mostly stock engines which make good low end torque can be worse off because the stall will pass right through the useable portion of the powerband. A good example would be a TPI engine from 1992, you want a tight converter for that setup.
Make sure you get a trans temp gauge.

I've ran both the ss3600 and a ptc 4000 10" in the same car with the same combo. The ptc drove the same as the yank in normal driving, but it was a different story at the track. The ptc killed the yank 1.52 60ft 7.49 1/8 milefor ptc 1.65 60ft 7.67 for yank This was in my 01 formula 3.23 gear

I had a generic Daaco 2800 converter in for the last 4 years. Replaced it this year with a SS3600 when I blew up the pump in my 4l60e. IMHO I honestly don't notice a big difference in them. IF you are even considering a cam, go with a 3600. If you think you will keep the stock cam then anything 3000-3600 will work. Like a lot of decisions, it sometimes comes down to money. BTW I bought my SS3600 new in the box from a local craigslist ad for $460

I have purchased a B&m 70264 and Aeroforce Interceptor to monitor things.
Who makes one? Cheapest I've seen is ss3600 for $800.
Awesome, is this the PTC single disk for $500?
I'm leaning toward the 3600 because there is a good chance I'll do a cam. Awesome deal you found.

Yes, this is an excellent thread and I have added it to the Stickies.
Therefore, PLEASE keep any questions, answers or other posts as general as possible. If you have want stall suggestions for your particular car, you are always welcome to start a new thread.

Give us your first impressions when you get it installed and bash on it a bit.

Certainly. I apologize for not responding to this post sooner. I have spoken about my converter on several other posts and forgot about this one.
All my concerns about going with the "higher" stall turned out to be no big deal. The majority of folks have said, "you'll get used to it" and "your going to love it". Well, they were right. The car isn't my daily driver and I've put less than 1000 miles on it since it was installed, but I'm already used to it and have zero regrets. Of everything I've done to this car, this has been the best mod. I do suggest to folks to be prepared to get some decent DR's if they want to have good traction off the line though.
At the strip, my E/T's went from 13.0-13.1 to consistent 12.2's with the only changes being the 3600 converter, Toyo TQ's and slightly better air.

Nice man! Glad it worked out for you. 3600 for DD or more street than strip cars. 4000 for weekend street/strip cars especially if they have more rear gear than stock. A lot of good brands to choose from but I prefer Yank. Seems like most of the quickest 4l60e cars run them. I'm down to a 1.32 60ft with my ss4000. Have a few more tricks up my sleeve to get in the 1.2's.
Side note I'm putting a street only combo together for my buddy and went with a yank ss3200. Wanted to go a little tighter for him and can always send it out for a restall up to a 3600.

OK, I'll chime in...I have a SS3600 and it is too tight on motor for my cam size. On the juice (150shot) however, it is perfect with the 3.42 gear. I say too tight on motor because w/the BTR Stage III cam, 60' aren't too impressive @ 1.6x. On the juice 1.46 in a full weight+ car.
Even though OP has already purchased a converter, for others reading this I would highly recommend a 4000+ converter if staying N/A

I'm considering a Circle D 3600 stall for my LS1 powered (98 Camaro) Morris Minor. However, I've read that I need a tune after fitting and living in Scotland, this is the biggest set back to my plans. My question is do i really need a tune, or will I have problems. My axle ratio (Ford 9 inch with tru trak) in 3.1 - 1 with 26 inch tyres. Car does reliable 12.2's @ 116 mph at present, but 60 foot times are never better than 1.9's.
Cheers
