Ok, so I'm about to install a 400 and kinda hit a snag. I started looking at places to mount my cooler, and realized that I have NO more room up front. So I'm thinking of mounting it in the rear end tunnel. Any of you guys have any experience mounting in that area of the car?

Better put a nice fan on it bc it wont be getting airflow back there.

When doing my T400 install I found if I put the cooler infront of the radiator to get airflow from the front of the air dam at speed, it will radiate heat into my custom cold air intake which is also pulling air from there.

So I've mounted the cooler under the Midwest chassis front (turbo style) bumper support but all the way to the right hand side under the bumper where it doesn't really have any proper airflow

Trans temps at 180 so far on the autometer gauge on a decent warm day but highway cruising and some WOT runs.

If I find the temps creep up more in stop go traffic i'll mount a fan to the cooler.

What kind of bracket you have for the intercooler?
The B&M 11x11 cooler was the perfect size to mount to a Huron IC bracket right on the back side. Never gets hot there, no fan necessary.

I'm going to use a derale cooler that comes with a fan on it.

The blank spot you see on the bottom radiator support, is the only piece of real estate that I have left up front (used some of the support for the scavenge pump). Not really sure if I want to use that for a trans cooler though

Man check out redrocketz28's thread he's using a big *** f250 trans cooler mounted under the ttop storage area and says it's been great. I went to the salvage yard and got a couple. They were $25 and are f-ing huge. About the size of the stock ac condenser I'll post a pic when I get a chance.

I have mine mounted under the passenger floor. It's a B&M stacked cooler with a fan. My temps never get over 180 unless i was on the trans brake for a bit.

Thanks guys, looks like that's a cheaper option that's just as good as the derale cooler.

In front of the radiator is the most ideal spot.

I've had customers purchase bare bumper supports then attach brackets to suit their needs and I've had other customers pay to have us build a custom bumper support with a specific cooler in mind.

The bare one or even a powder coated version and just clean up the area you plan to weld then touch it back up with some paint.
