Question Which Transmission should I go with?

Alright guys, I'm going for an Over-Drive tranny for my Chevelle. Currently it's running a 1970 Corvette LT1 (370hp) . I'm looking for a replacement for my TH400, however, I'm not really sure what the best bet would be. I'm between the 700R4 or the 4L60, what are the pros & cons of each, who makes the best versions of each tranny, etc... Thanks for any info you guys can share. One thing that might help to know is that I'll be upgrading to an LS2 sometime in the near future.

Thanks again, guys.

FYI I do not believe the 4L60E for the LT1 will work with the LSx motor. Something is different but I am not sure what it is.

Hey Just so you'll know....4l60 = 700r4......ergo 4l60E = 700r4 electronic. 700r4 is with t.v. cable.....4l60e is computer controlled. Hope this helps Dave

The Gen-I SBC (4.3, 5.0, 5.7L Vortec) and Gen-II SBC (LT1/4) use the 30-spline version of the 4L60-E. LS1-based engines (incluging the Gen-III 4.8, 5.3, 6.0) use the 33-spline version of the 4L60-E. All 4L65-E are 33-spline. These 33-spline versions take different converters and have different spacing for the flexplate.
