The only con I can see is not running a dust cover that has strut rods on it for support.
That and I guess it could be dangerous if you're the type who likes to work under the car with the engine running.
I leave them off usually, or put a plastic one on so it doesn't rattle.

where did you get a plastic one for a th350? did you modify an A4 cover to fit?

I got it from a junkyard, I'm thinking they are aftermarket. They don't rattle like the metal ones do.

I guess it could happen. I've run a 4L80E in a one ton truck without one, as well as a th400 in a 3/4 ton, 700R4 in an S10, two th350's and a th400 in a nova with no problems with anything getting stuck in there.

I just remembered one thing though, One of the th350's in my nova blew a pump seal and slung fluid on the header, which was wrapped, and it started a fire. If I had the cover on there it would have prevented it from slinging out.

So if you have one use it.

BTW if you have one why do you ask?

your front pump seal might have blown due to not having a dust cover. lots of stuff can get caked up in there.....

No I drove the pump bushing in crooked and it loosened up while driving and pushed the seal lip out just enough.
It had maybe 100 miles on it and I knew I should have redone that bushing because the converter was a tight fit, in fact I had to tap it in with a hammer.
See I know all the dumb mistakes because I've made most of them already.
