Thumbs up Finally ordered my FLP 4L65 today

After 86,000+ miles and better than 100 track passes, the A4 just couldn't hold between shifts anymore. And from all the failed home rebuild stories I've read, I didn't want to waste money doing it more than once. So I called up FLP and talked to Phil. He was very helpful and answered all my questions. Since I run on the bottle, I went with the Level 5 4L65E for peace of mind. So hopefully, within 3-4 weeks, I'll be installing my last transmission. Wish me luck Thanks Phil.

I'm trying to sell my TCI streetfighter now. I thought about a PY3600E, but I'm leaning more toward a TCI Competition 3800 instead. I gotta have it here and ready to go by the time the tranny shows up either way.

You should bring your car and TC over some time and I'll help ya swap it out. With 2 people, I doubt it would take 3 hours.

A little off topic, but how does it shift on the street during normal driving? My tranny has 59k on it and over 200 passes at the track. I am just preparing for when it does go. It hasn't slipped yet, but I'm sure it won't take much more for it to happen.

Right now it shifts perfectly normal on the street. A week before taking it to the track, It was barking the tires on the 1-2 and 2-3 shifts. I've put a few hundred miles on the tranny since then and it still drives perfectly normal. I just havent done any WOT blasts with it since then. I'm gonna baby it for 2 1/2 more weeks.

Its pretty firm on the shifts. If I had the stock TC, I think it may chirp on the shifts.

Cool. I want to go with that and a Yank ST3500 combo. I already have the ST3500, but I need to send it out to get refreshed and then I am going to sit on it until the tranny blows.

I was using a TCI Streetfighter TC
I thought it was a 3200 stall, but the part# calls up a 3000 stall.

I'm ordering a TCI Competition 3800 this friday.

Yeah, I might have to take you up on that offer. The only snag is I really want to do a trans go shift kit, but I don't think i'm up to the challenge. Q from MIspeed has a good tranny guy here in GR that will do it for $50 but I have to bring him just the tranny because I guess he won't do it with the trans in the car, so it might be a whole weekend project with stall, cooler, shift kit and temp gauge.

I have a buddy a few miles from my house that has a 4 post car lift in his pole barn. Maybe I can con him into letting me use it for the weekend. Driving the tranny all the way back to GR and back here might be a challenge. I could see if another friend of mine has time to do it. He's been building trannies for Quality Clutch and Gear for around 13 years and has done a bunch of them. Let me know

Damn, that is a very tempting offer! I guess the main thing is to see if your friend would have time for the shift kit install. I just ordered one from Pro Built Automatics today so it should be here shortly, the only other thing I want to get is a trans temp. gauge, but i'm not shure what one to get... Do you use one??

I don't currently have one. But If I can find a place to put it that looks halfway decent, I might get one. My triple gauge pod is already full. Just off what I could read from my HP Tuners, it reads around 165-171 deg F. I do run a B&M 24k trans cooler though for cheap insurance.

Does a TCI 3500 torque converter made for the 4L60E work with a 4L65?

Yes, it should work. The main difference between the 60 and 65 is that the 65 has 5 pinion planetaries, and the 60 only had 4. Everything else is pretty much the same.
