Default Holding the trans in gear. Easy question.

I know this is a easy question for some, but I haven't found the answer. I tried search but it didn't work.
I have a 02 with 273 gears and the great 4L60E trans.
I did the vaccuum module mod on it for the time being as it is a fairly stock car and didn't want to do a full upgrade.

A lot of guys like to race from a roll. With my 273 gears I have to do everything perfect or I loose.
This is my 4th Auto LS1, one a T400 and the only one with the problem. When I try and hold my car in 1st gear it shifts anyways even when I have the shifter in 1st.
It takes to long for the car to backshift and the M6 guys pull like 3 cars by the time I start moving. What needs to be done to keep the damn trans in the gear I want it in?
In my other cars I could be going 50 and yank it down to 1st if I wanted. Didn't sound so great but I had full control.
Now this is driving me crazy. I got beat by a car tonight that was bone stock from a 20-100 roll because he was in a M6 with 342's and I had to wait for the trans to back shift.
Its bad enough everytime I shift gears I drop RPM's down to like 1500. J/K
Thanks

A Transgo shift kit should cure your problem.

Are you sure?
I had shift kits in the other cars so maybe thats the difference.
I only ask because you say "should cure your problem"
Thanks for the input.

The kit will allow you to hold any gear to any speed and back-shift from any gear at any speed.
