Torque/Stall converters. Please explain.
I want to get a converter for my A4 TA, but its kinda hard to explain to my parents and such as to what they do. I know they increase power like crazy off the line, but I am still confused about them. Someone please help.

Search. It's a very common question. Simplistically you can (not exactly accurate) relate it to slipping the clutch at light throttle and like dropping the clutch from a higher rpm (roughly stall speed) at WOT, putting you higher in the powerband. IT also multiplies torque (STR) and increases your shift extension, which can be though of as stalling to higher rpm's on the upshifts.

Shift extension is an interesting phenomenon ( spelling? ). For example, with an A4 3.23 gears, when the car shifts from like first to second, the RPMs fall from like 6000, to like 3500, or so. Well, with my Yank SS3800, the RPMs don' t fall below 5200-5400, between shifts, at WOT. Now that' s stayin' in the power band.
