Default Input Shaft/Housing Differences

I went down to the local transmission wreaking yard yesterday and saw a lot of input shafts/housings. Quite a number had the splines going all the way to the tip (not the pilot). I was told that none of them were from late model transmissions, so I didn't buy one.

My current transmission has the pilot on the end and I want to use an LS1 type Torque Converter (TCI - Streetfighter). I've been using a B29 Torque converter (with a pretty low stall speed).

Is there a difference between these earlier type input shafts and newer input shaft (made for LS1 applications)?

If so, what is the difference?

Sam

The spline count for one, I'm sure there might be other differences.
These old shafts you're looking at are from 2.8 V6 and four cylinder 700R4's and 4L60E's.

I am told that the input shaft from a 4L65E is what I need.

Does this sound right?

Is the 4L65E what is used in the Camaro?

Sam.
