Default car shifts twice in OD...

under low-medium throttle when shifting into OD my tranny will make a soft shift - then carry it for about 3 seconds, then make another, somewhat harder shift, into OD. wtf? under hard accel. it will shift once. i didn't notice this before my shiftkit install. every other gear shifts fine. i did the full race shift kit (transgo), btw. no stall yet, still in the box.

I think you are describing your lock-up torque converter.

its your lock up clutch, like others said. You didnt notice it before cause line pressure was lower than it is now with the shift kit. If you really want to have fun with it, give it moderate gas and get it up to 40-45mph than let off the gas and tell me if you feal it then lol.. bet you will and the car will shake..

2-3 shift
3-4 shift
torque converter lockup (feels like ANOTHER gear shift)

Stock locks too, and especially with a shift it and the increased line pressure it will be more prominent. cablebandit hit it dead on.

You've got a four speed auto, but due to lock up, it acts like a five speed.

and thats what i said too, you shift kit is raising line pressure making it a harder lock up.. One question i had for you and think you might be experiencing, when you installed the shift kit did you delete torque management in the pcm??

when your driving about 35ish, and the converter is locked up, bearly tap the brake pedal just enough to set the brake lights on. The car will unlock the converter if the brakes are bearly touched, you can feel it that way too.

That first shift you describe is the shift into overdrive (with the converter unlocked). The second 'shift' is the TC locking.

All lock up TC's lock up. And unlock. This freaked me out too, when I first experienced it. Completely normal.

SIR; THEY ARE GIVING YOU THE ANSWER, it is the lockup of your converter, if you do not want the answer, DO NOT ASK THE QUESTION IN THE FIRST PLACE.

What about the elimination of the PWM?
Transgo shift kits eliminate the PWM. Thats Pulse Width Modulated. It means it pulses the tcc until it's locked up instead of just bam.
Eliminating PWM provides a more firm tcc apply.
Normal transmission function usually locks up in third, unlocks during the shift into fourth, then locks back up.
The solution is to eliminate lock up in third or deal with it. Thats why it says on the box pcm modification is needed.
Or just put the original valve back in the trans.

Exactly. That's why you feel the lock-up so much more after the Transgo - it feels just like another firm shift.

eh? i know stock converters lock up, too. but i didn't know it would lock up at different speeds solely dependent on how hard i'm accelerating. it will do this at 50 mph or 120 mph. just depends on how hard i am accelerating into OD. thanks for the input. and no, i haven't had the pcm tuned. waiting for stall before i do any of that.

oh no tune, you could be experiencing torque management due to hard shifts.. As for the lock up, it has to do with the throttle and how deep you are into it for the given speed/load on the motor.
