Default need drag radials?

how many people run stall converters with street tires? i want to get a stall, and everyone is saying "go bigger" or "i wish i bought a bigger one to begin with".. but i have a stock suspention (except bilsteins) and regular street tires, and i dont want to press the gas and just sit there while my tires spin.. if i get a new stall, will i need/want new grippier tires? otherwise, getting a stall and not being able to drive it because of wheel spin defeats the purpose!

I had street tires for awhile but in order to take advantage of the stall, you will need drag radials. Knowing what the STR of the converter would help also.

If you get a lower STR it will hit softer on street tires. I have a Yank SS3800, like Roarin_8 and run street tires. Let me be the first to tell you, IT' S A WASTE!!! Well, at the track, anything less than some DRs is just beatin' up on the car. On the street, for regular driving, it ain' t bad. From a roll a TC will be great. My shift extension is from about 5300-5400, and it just doesn' t stop pulling. Period. At the track, I can' t roll into WOT until after the 60', thereby wasting all the benefits of a high STR. My brother just got a SS4000 and just changed to 3.73s. He is picking up some DRs and we will see how it runs. I' d like to see what my car would do with his DRs, but, it' s a waste if you want to realize the full potential of a TC, IMHO.

radz282003, drag radials make a HUGE difference at the track and on the street. Depending on which brand you go for, you'll be able to hit the gas sooner after launching her. Have fun

yeah, but i plan on almost never going to the track. Just some good old fun street driving. the stock a4 has terriable lag points, and i want to be able to have some fun on the street. will regular street tires suffice?

Again, need to know what the STR is. Even with street tires on with the stall, traction was no where to be found from a dig, car felt good from a roll (pulled very nicely) but with drag radials it still made a big difference. I have a vid where I had the street tires on and then the drag radials. I'll try to put them up.

Ok here we go, 1st vid was with street tires and 1/4 throttle gas. 2nd vid is with the nittos, flashed the converter and then gave it full throttle. Watch my friend's head in the passenger seat.

Are the BFG g-force T/A Drag Radials (tubeless) a good choice for street only use?
Thanks

The BFG's are good, but won't last but maybe 5K? miles on the street. I had Nitto 555Rs and they hooked good on the street, and you can get 10-15K miles out of them.

kinda stinks because i bought new tires a few months ago.. so a set of new tires wouldnt really be in the budget right now. i know i shouldnt cut corners, so i suppose ill wait on getting a stall. what about with a lower STR? i havent decided on an actual stall yet as im still tossing around the idea, any suggestions?

The lower the STR the more likely that you'll have traction with street tires. The stock stall's STR is 1.8

You can drive around fine with at stall and street tires. If you go WOT you will spin more then if you had DRs. Go ahead and get the stall.

Besides, it can help you burn the tread off your street tires if you really want DRs.

Car was actually slower from a dig and less stable.

A stall will make the car so much more fun to drive. (I don't know how you could hate it) At part throttle applications he will be fine with street tires. He will just have to learn how to launch more carefully with it.

I say get the stall and enjoy it. When your tires are bald get DRs if you need too. Traction shouldn't stop you from modding. Next you won't be able to cam it, or spray it with out suspension mods because you will spin. A few more mods, then DR won't be enough. There are 700+ HP cars on this board that will spin DR on the freeway, should they not do anything because traction problems? No, they just have to learn to be more careful to avoid spinning.

right, but i would imagine driving around with a stall and street tires like driving around right now in the rain (or when it has just rained and the ground is wet). i cant drive agressivly as i spin out of control and i have no traction. lets say if i want to pass someone, or just accelerate for the hell of it, instead of pounding it to the ground and going, i will have to taper the gas until my converter locks, and probably go slower than if i were to with a stock converter. its no fun driving if my car doesnt go anywhere.. maybe i should go and get LT's and a catted Y with the amount of money id spend on a stall. then save up enough to get a cam (+valvetrain upgrades and intake) and a stall and do everything at the same time

Why don't you just get DRs when you get the stall? I'm sure that you can find a cheap pair and you only need 2. I ran street tires for about 2 months with the stall but like you said, if you needed to floor it to pass someone from a dig you'll just spin and in worse cases, fishtail. It wasn't too bad on the highway since the car was already moving.
