I have a Hughes-built 4L80E in my sleeper and love it. The programmability is awesome - you can control a lot of stuff so that you tranny is exactly like you want it. A baby around town? No problem! A monster when you hit the gas? Easy stuff. It will handle 1000HP if it's built correctly.

What controller are you using?

I just picked my 4L80E up from the tranny shop today. Fully built to the hilt. Used Alto red clutches and steels, Trans Go stg 2 shift kit, performance sprag(s), new drive clutches, solenoids, Driect drum, the works. Cost me roughy $2000. Now I have to find a verter, x-member, and all the other stuff for the install.

CAT3 - I'm using the TCI Controller and its T-Con software. Easy and flexible. Available also through GMPP - they just put a sticker over the TCI one, but you might be able to get a better price on it.
MetallicTrans96 - No, the 80E converters are very different.

You can use the 80e with the stock pcm if you have a tuner that knows what he is doing.
All the conversion pieces are on www.speed-eng.com 's site

Yank makes a converter for the 80e or you can use spacers.

ok, is there a stock pcm tuning software that can deal with the 4l60e to 4l80e swap? If anything, maybe we could write in a t-56 file and use the TCI controller for the trans?
any idea'rs?

right, i have spoken to speed engineering about their kits and this is what i got:
"We are not sure what we are gonna do with the tunning yet." I will say that he was quite cool to talk to.
I appreciate your help but for me, there is nothing they can for me and to be honest, it was a bit expensive for their kit with the flt lvl5 plus a 600.00 core charge.

The TCI controller is an option. I was told HPTuners would support the 4L80E swap now. It just takes a Bin file for the 4L80E trans tables. I think Cablebandit is using that software setup now.

which converter will you guys recommend... i like yank.
this will be with either my 3.23 gears or maybe a 3.73 in a moser 12 bolt, 408ci. Oh, street car, my current str, 3600ss is about 2.3-2.5 so anything that acts this tight or tighter (preferred) would be what im looking for

I had a local guy do my tranny for me. He has built many a drag transmission for several of my friends. Everything is top of the line. I have everything for the swap coming up for sale. The Trans, verter, TCI TCU, Yank X-member all of it. PM me if interested.

Raptor makes a "quadzilla" 80E that is full manual and should hold up very well behind that turbo. 3100 for it.
