midwest 3800 converter 2.4 str to much for me??
I have a good line on a midwest 3800 stall converter with 2.4 str. Mods are in my sig. Stock cam for now. I have a couple ??? too. What is the STR?? Is 350$ for this stall a good price. The stall only has 8,000 miles on it. and 25 track passes on it. Also I only have a HPPIII for shift points. Will this get me buy untill I get a Tune?

If the HPP3 can't adjust lockup and part throttle shifts
then this converter would be pretty sloppy to drive
and probably lock/unlock annoyingly in low speed street
driving.
The stall & STR are high enough that you will not be able
to dead-hook anything but slicks. Even drag radials will
have to be soft-pedaled at launch.
There were apparently some quality problems with Midwest
converters a few years ago, leakage etc. Be sure you can
trust the piece & seller. Personally I look at used converters
like used condoms; not a great way to save money. At the
least you'd want it flushed and now you're eating into any
savings there might be. Midwest were not all that expensive
(relative to the big names) anyway, and at $350 you are
up in the region of new converters from some of the lower-
priced operations; a TCI 3500 or a Fuddle will be maybe
$50-$100 more, but for a virgin w/ warranty.

too much IMO. 200 tops. You can buy a good used Vig or Yank all day long for 350 and they're twice the converters. and I would suggest a 3500ish rpm.
The STR is the stall torque ratio. short and sweet it is how hard the converter will hit the tires. 2.4 is going to hit pretty hard, you will have less traction with out a good tire, not a prob if you have drag radials but street tires will be a masicure of rubber.
