Default Advice: Input on stalls that give better MPH and also faster from a roll type race.

Hey all:

I have done alot of reading in this section and also heard alot of opinions both ways.

First I have a 02 Camaro with all the bolt-ons, LT with full exhaust, heads & cam package, built trans with the stock 10 bolt & 342 gears and a NX system. I also have 2 trans coolers and fully tuned.

My questions:

I always hear a bigger stall is always better and how everyone that goes with a 3,000 to 3,200 wishes they went bigger. WHY?

I have had my car about 2 years now and have made it to the track twice. I am more into the roll race 15 MPH plus and freeway races. I have a Fuddle 3,000 stall with a 2.1 STR now and with my 315-35-17 nitto drag tires I run 1.6-1.7 60 foots.

I am looking for a new conveter. But as I stated I am more into roll type and freeway races. So I want the best stall for what I have. What I am leaning towards is either a Yank or Vigilante 3,200 stall.

I also have heard certain stalls will get you better MPH with the same ET. If this is true wont it also help from a roll or freeway race also?

Also on the STR does a higher STR help in a roll race or freeway race or just from a stop?

Does a higher stall cause alot more heat to the trans since it causes more slipping?

Sorry its a little long but I really want some facts before I purchase a new stall.

Thanks everyone

A lower STR will make less heat and if used correctly will make more power thru the RPM range
Just guessing at a STR and Stall speed is a crap shoot it is best to use converters that have testing behind them.
Yank converters are Proven to be best in class for the stall STR combo offered if used in the correct setup
as shown in this graph a high stall low STR converter can make more power to the wheels in the upper RPM range over stock
as shown in prior thread

I wouldn't bother going from 3000 to 3200. If you are going to go through the trouble and spend the money to upgrade, do it right and make a bigger jump.

a friend of mine has a SY3500 with all the bolt ons. when i was bolt ons only, my vig3200 car didn't feel like it pulled as hard up top. now the butt-o-meter isn't a legit way of testing but the chart posted by Yank is hard to deny.

My opinion is to go with the Yank PT4000.
you will get a vertor that hits the tires a little less and PULLS real good up-top.

I have had a VIG 3600 and the Yank SS4000 and now use the Yank PT4000.

The PT4000 has been the most fun on my drive to and from work(highway roll).
The shift extension of the PT4000 verses your current convertor will be a HUGE NIGHT/DAY difference.

Call Dave at Yank and go over some options.

Like all companies they have theree up's and down's---- but alot more up's. That's just my experience with Yank.

Good luck
Dave
