shifter questions / opinion
So, I got my car today, it's got a th350 in a 2001 ss. It's currently a reverse pattern, and I'm not crazy about the shifter, any suggestions on a shifter for this thing?

here is a video of it going through the gears, it's a reverse pattern, it's not as smooth as I'd hope for, any suggestions? It's a th350 with a 4400 stall, I'm thinkin of a tranny swap soon too, maybe a 4l80e so i can bring down the rpms on the interstate, i'm over 3200rpms at 60-65

Well to begin with... in the video the shifter you currently have is not bolted down. That is going to impart an incorrect "feel" not to mention it is not safe at all. You have a very nice billet shifter... if I had to guess it is a Pro Bandit for a 3 speed. But that is a guess without seeing the entire unit.
The shifter I would recommend... and like myself... is a ratchet style shifter. It provides simple operation, has very solid detent action and is fool proof. It has a reverse lock out that can be operated with one hand once you learn the moves. It is a B&M Pro Ratchet.
That's the one for me!

I searched 'em up on summitracing, and they look pretty nice, do they offer a button on the top for roll control/line lock /nos options?
I liked the quarter sticks also, whats ur opinion on those?

Is there a way to adjust the current shifter so when it goes from one gear to the next it was more of a set spot? I guess since it's not bolted down correctly that it could cause a problem, I'm going to have to look into that also, but it feels as though when it comes back from 1st to 2nd it isn't the same spot everytime, kinda messes with me. It doesnt lock-out in 3rd and can slip right into N AND R, not good!

I like the positive detent shifters like the B&M Pro Stick and Hurst quarter stick myself. But its all a matter of what you like. Try alot of different shifters and see what you like best.
Also try bolting down your current shifter and adjusting the cable correctly and you might find you do like that shifter.

Well, I'm pretty sure I'm going to a 4l60e, this thing needs overdrive! I'm running over 3k rpms on the interstate with the th350, i'm not a fan of that, so - What aftermarket shifters work with a 4l60e?

LoL.
I think the problem with it in the current application is the fact that it should be used with a RMVB and I don't think it is. That Pro Bandit shifter should be considered a track only shifter IMHO. It is a bad to the bone shifter, don't get me wrong... we run one in the Nova we race.
Point is it does not have a reverse or neutral lock out feature. So, with any forward shift pattern it is not driver friendly, meaning it is easy to hit neutral or reverse... either one are not good on a WOT 2/3 shift at say 80 -90 mph!
